Our Mission

Wounded Warrior Homes is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization that serves medically discharged, single men and women of our armed forces with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Our mission is to provide affordable housing, hands-on resources, and a defined path for each member to transition from active-duty military service to independent living as a veteran of foreign wars.

We welcome supportive businesses, organizations and individuals throughout the San Diego County and beyond to join our efforts to support the men and women who have given so much to protect our freedom!

History of the Marine Corps’ birthday

| November 10th, 2011 | 2 Comments »

Happy Birthday USMC! It is our honor to serve you! From the founders and volunteers at Wounded Warrior Homes. MCB QUANTICO, Va. — The U.S. Marine Corps begins preparations for its ‘‘birthday party” every summer. Activities become more feverish as the fall hues arrive. By early November, every Marine is either rehearsing his role in the ‘‘party” or pressing, polishing and spit-shining in order to appear at his or her best for the Birthday Ball. This has not always been the case, however. In fact, Marines have not always celebrated their founding on Nov. 10. Formal commemoration of the birthday of the Marine Corps began on Nov. 10,1921. That particular date was chosen because on that day the Second Continental Congress resolved in 1775 to raise two battalions of Continental Marines. Until 1921 the birthday of the Corps had been celebrated on another date. An unidentified newspaper clipping from 1918

PTSD: Fighting the Battle on All Fronts

| October 18th, 2011 | 3 Comments »

SAN DIEGO – August 19, 2011 – Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a serious problem that has plagued veterans of all wars for thousands of years, long before it was officially recognized as a medical condition. PTSD has been called a “signature injury” of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.  Previous reports have estimated that as many as 30% of those returning home have stress-related medical issues. Local statistics echo that estimate: at the VA Hospital of San Diego, one-third of OIF/OEF veterans indicate a potential stress related disorder in the process of completing the VA’s mandatory screening program, which is based on the idea that better identification of the problem leads to better treatment.  The good news is that PTSD research, including that which is administered and funded through the Veterans Medical Research Foundation (VMRF) is as deep and diverse as the problem itself. In fact, a VMRF
